Mailbox
Discussion
Gardeners can also
put up a mailbox inside a flower garden. In most incidences the flower gardens
always contain their favorite flowers
. The idea behind putting the mailboxes in
the flower gardens is that just as the flowers, the owners treasure the
letterboxes.

his love for flowers.
Some people also
express their love for a particular sport through paintings on their mailboxes.
As revealed in the research, most residents who showed this characteristic were
in the 23-35 age bracket. In the interview, most of them stated that the main
reason behind the idea is the passion for their choice of sport or team that
they love to be associated with. A perfect example is Cody Green’s mailbox.
Cody is a football fanatic (American football) with Steelers being his favorite
team. In his house, he had a collection of Steelers’ games on DVDs as well as
posters of Steelers players and legends in his living room. In the interview
Cody revealed that he has been a die-hard fun for the team since his teenage.
This was evident through a collection of game tickets he had kept as statistics
of the games he has watched. In his view, painting the mailbox with Steelers’
logo and theme colors would help him show his passion for the game and the love
for his team.

The intended theme
of the mailbox can be represented through the colors and the design the owner
decides on. For instance, red color has been perceived to be a romantic color.
Painting the whole letterbox red and designing it in a certain way may tell of
a person’s personality as far as romance is concerned. Chris Rodney (our
immediate neighbor)’s mailbox is a perfect example of this. He is a gentleman
famed for his ‘lover-boy’ and ‘ladies’ guy’ reputation. Despite his age, most
ladies in the estate talk of him as a romantic guy who is fun to hang around
with and indeed during the interview, I found him reserved and gentle. He
stated that his favorite color is red and looking around his house, most of the
things he treasured were all red in color; his car, door to his house, the
carpet in the house as well as seats in the living room. He also had fresh and lovely
roses planted all around the house with some in the living room. Indeed looking
at Rodney’s mailbox, one could easily guess of his personality. The design and
the color of the mailbox also give an idea of things one would likely find in
his house.

Novelty
is another key factor that determines the design, shapes and colors of
mailboxes. Novelty may be driven by passion or the urge of having something
unique. Most people change mailboxes from time to time because they have seen a
new and unique mailbox design in the market. To others, it is a routine to
change mailbox after a certain time and are always shopping for the next
design. The new designs may be inform of
the latest happenings. For instance, a manufacturer may make a mailbox with the
design of the latest movie character or the latest championship won. Some
owners may decide to show their love for a particular type of movie through the
letterboxes. Rey Johns has a passion for
horror movies and looking at his mailbox, one can tell of his love for stories
of the underworld. In the interview Rey stated that he chose on the design to
show his love for his all time favorite horror movie; The Crow.

Novelty and
uniqueness may also be designed in form of ones career or hobby. Bobby, a renowned fisherman decided to show
his love for his career through his lovely mailbox. It is a simple Joroleman
letterbox but with a perfect touch of class.

On the other hand, Clinton shows his passion for books through his letterbox designed with a sculpture of a young boy busy reading a book. In his house there are a lot of literature materials farther emphasizing on the accuracy of the assumption one gets about him and his home when he sees his mailbox. To some extend the design is also inspired by tradition and history of education his whole family upholds. On the other hand, Dorah’s mailbox is purely inspired by tradition. She treasures ancient tradition a fact that she clearly shows through her letterbox (Burgess & Green, 2008).
